OUR PROBE
Reverse searching the keyframes of the viral video, we came across a 2015 Daily Mail report. It described the viral video as a man falling off a hoverboard in Dubai. The report titled, “Painful moment man is sent hurtling down the road face-first after he loses his balance on speeding hoverboard in Dubai”, featured the viral video and described it as a man falling off a speeding hoverboard in Dubai face-first.
This video, however, did not feature the explosion. Nor did the report mention any explosion. The video was reportedly filmed by artist and entertainer Masta Moneyplus on a smartphone, who captured the fall on and off chance.
Similar uploads on streaming platforms and media reports stated the incident was from 2015 in Dubai. These videos didn’t show the man exploding into flames as well. This made it clear that the original video was edited to add the explosion to it.
Thus, it’s clear that a digitally edited clip was shared online with a false communal angle.
