This is yet another “free coupon” scam. - By: Urvashi Kapoor - Published: Sep 25, 2020 at 06:54 PM New Delhi (Vishvas News): A message circulating on social media states that McDonald’s is offering coupons for two free Big Mac Meals to social media users. The message also has a link and is prompting the user to click on the link to avail the offer. Vishvas News investigated and found the message to be a scam. Claim A viral post on Facebook shows a link with a claim that reads: McDonald’s has announced that everyone who shares this link will receive 2 FREE McFamily box. The link with the post is mcfamilybox.com. The archived version of the post can be checked here. Vishvas News also received the post on its Whatsapp Chatbot for fact check. Investigation When Vishvas News started its investigation we compared the viral link with the link of the official website of McDonald’s. The official website is mcdonalds.com whereas the viral website is mcfamilybox.com. We further searched and found a post on Facebook where the user has asked tagging McDonald’s whether the company is offering such a deal by clicking on the given link. To this, McDonald’s replied: “Thank you for letting us know. This looks like a scam.” When we searched the details of the viral website on Whois domain lookup, we found that the website was created on 29th March 2020. Vishvas News contacted McDonald’s through email. In response, the McDonald’s India Representative (West & South) replied through myfeedback@mcdonaldsindia.com: This seems to be a false claim being stated across. We’re not the ones running the same. However, we appreciate bringing this to our notice. Vishvas News scanned the profile of the user who shared the viral post. We found that the user named Jill Garvie is based out of United Kingdom. Conclusion: No, this food outlet is not offering 2 free Big Mac Meals for a month.
