A screenshot of a post made by Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on X has been widely shared on social media. The alleged post, dated July 29, 2020, reads: “I will stand by my word that I will commit suicide before the construction of Ram Temple”. Many shared the viral screenshot, sarcastically commenting that someone should remind Sibal about his old tweet with the inauguration date of the Ram Mandir fast approaching. The post was shared on X and Facebook as well. India Today found that the viral post is fake. Kapil Sibal never made any such statement regarding the Ram Mandir. Our Probe We checked Sibal’s official X account using time filters and did not find any such post since July 29, 2020. Had Sibal made such a statement, it would have been big news. But we couldn’t find any credible news report about this either. It’s noteworthy that we found only one type of screenshot of this alleged post floating on social media. If Sibal had made this post, many social media users would have taken different screenshots of it and shared them on the internet. The screenshot also appeared digitally manipulated. The font sizes did not match X’s format. Finally, on Kapil Sibal’s official account, we found a clarification that the post was fake.
