  • (Trigger Warning: Visuals could be triggering. Viewers discretion is advised.) A disturbing video of police personnel removing a woman's body from a refrigerator is being circulated with a claim that she was a Muslim woman named 'Gulnaz', who was killed by her Hindu husband in Madhya Pradesh. What did the viral post say?: An X (formerly Twitter) shared the clip with a caption that said, "Sanjay, Gulnaz Bano and the Fridge. Gulnaz converted to hinduism for marrying Sanjay, threatening her parents with police case if they pursue her and moved in with Sanjay. Gulnaz’s rotting body was later found in a FRIDGE with Sanjay nowhere to be found (sic)." What is the truth?: The claim is false as there is no communal angle to the incident. Team WebQoof spoke to Thana Bank Note Press Inspector Amit Solanki, who refuted the viral claim and said that both the accused and the victim belonged to the same community. How did we find that out?: We performed a keyword search using the words such as "madhya pradesh man kills partner fridge" and found a news report published by NDTV. It said that a man named Sanjay Patidar allegedly killed her live-in partner and kept her body in a fridge for around eight months. The victim, who was identified as Pinky Prajapati, was reportedly pressuring Patidar for marriage. This led to the latter killing her with the help of a friend. It should be noted that Patidar was already married. The report mentioned that as per Dewas Superintendent of Police Puneet Gehlot, the house was first rented by Patidar from one Dhirendra Shrivastava in June 2023. However, a year later, the accused had left the house but kept his belongings in a room. News reports: News agency ANI's X handle shared the statement from Dewas SP Puneet Gehlot on the murder case. Gehlot said that the house belonged to a man named Dhirendra Srivastava who lived in Indore. When the current tenant [Balbir Rajput] tried cleaning the room and opening the fridge, the woman's body was found inside it. He identified the accused as 'Sanjay', a resident of Ujjain. The victim was named Pratibha alias Pinky. The accused reportedly confessed to his crimes after he was taken into custody. Further, we found the same video uploaded on the official handle of IANS. It was posted on 10 January with a caption that said, "Dewas, Madhya Pradesh: A woman's dead body was found in a house in Vrindavan Dham Colony. The body was found inside a fridge in a locked room. Police are investigating the matter." What did the police say?: Inspector Amit Solanki told us that the viral claim is false. He said, "Both the accused and the victim belonged to the same community. They were Hindu by birth." Team WebQoof reached out to Dewas SP Gehlot who, too, confirmed that the case has no communal angle. Conclusion: It is evident that the viral claim is false and there is no communal angle to the incident. (Not convinced of a post or information you came across online and want it verified?
