The video shows an incident that occurred recently in the city of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
A shocking video of a man digging out a newborn baby buried in a field is circulating on social media. It's claimed that the baby was found under the debris after the recent Morocco earthquake, which claimed nearly 3,000 lives on September 8.
A Twitter user posted this video with the caption, “Here, a new-born baby is dug out of the debris after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake devastates Morocco.”

India Today found that this video is not related to the recent earthquake in Morocco. Instead, it shows a child found buried in the fields of Kanpur Dehat district in Uttar Pradesh on September 9, 2023.
Our Probe
Several social media users were found responding to the viral video, affirming that the incident had taken place in Kanpur. Notably, many users tagged the Kanpur Police, seeking clarification on the matter.
Following this lead, we searched further and found a tweet by the Kanpur Dehat Police, shedding light on the incident.
According to the details shared in this tweet, the infant seen in the video, was discovered in Pulandar village, Moosa Nagar of Kanpur Dehat, by a couple named Rajesh and Reshma. Additionally, Kanpur Dehat police had also posted another video of the rescued infant.
On searching further, we found a few media reports related to this incident. According to Aaj Tak's report, some residents of Pulandar village were drawn by the sound of a baby crying in a nearby field. Upon approaching, they made a startling discovery—a newborn baby buried under the soil. Immediately, they rushed the infant to the hospital and alerted the police.
Thereafter, we came across a report in Dainik Bhaskar, which stated that the Kanpur Dehat police were searching for women who had then given birth to babies.
For more information, we reached out to Ravikant Gond, the Circle Officer of Bhognipur. He confirmed that this incident did indeed take place in Kanpur Dehat, and they were conducting search operations to apprehend the individual responsible for burying the newborn in the field.
India Today also spoke to a few journalists from Kanpur Dehat who corroborated our findings.
To sum it up, the video showing the discovery of a baby buried in a field in Uttar Pradesh is being falsely shared in the backdrop of the Morocco earthquake.
