  • FACT CHECK: No, Elon Musk Is Not Giving Away Free Gold Bars A video shared on Facebook allegedly shows X CEO Elon Musk saying he will be giving away free gold bars to the first 10,000 people who view the video. Verdict: False The video was created with artificial intelligence (AI). The original video of Musk does not show him mentioning gold bars. Fact Check: Musk has reinstated conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ X account after 70% of a poll’s respondents voted in favor of the account’s return, according to Politico. The X algorithm seems to be promoting Jones’ account with some of his posts appearing on the “For You” page of users who do not follow him, CNN reported. A Facebook video allegedly shows Musk saying that he is giving away gold bars for free. The video shows Musk addressing the camera in a suit. “Hello everyone, it’s Elon Musk,” he appears to say. “I know times are tough right now and the holidays are just around the corner. I was just told that we will have a massive tax bill due to unexpected profits, and instead of paying it, I would rather give that same money to the hard working under appreciated American public. I will be giving free gold bars to the first 10,000 people who see this video.” Musk then says to click a “get offer” button to enter information and pay a $9.95 shipping fee to receive a gold bar. “I’m back again with another crazy giveaway for you guys!” the caption reads. “This time we’re giving away FREE Pure Gold Bars!” The video has been edited with AI. The original video, titled “A Conversation with Elon Musk 2.0,” was posted to YouTube in March 2023 by the World Governments Summit. Musk does not give any mention of gold bars here. Upon close inspection of the Facebook video, Musk’s lips do not align with what he is saying. Furthermore, there are no credible news reports about such a giveaway.
