  • Musk has not made any public statement explicitly stating that he "longs to get pregnant." Rather, that wording came from the headline of an article that interpreted an X post to which Musk responded "1000%," followed by two laughing emojis, to another X user's speculation about how frequently Musk would be pregnant if he had the capability. It was not clear from the post whether Musk's response was serious or a joke. In January 2025, a rumor spread online that tech entrepreneur Elon Musk once said he "longs" to be able to get pregnant. A discussion of whether Musk ever authentically made this statement was the subject of a post (archived) on Tumblr that had amassed more than 31,000 reposts as of this writing. It also featured in a Reddit post (archived) that garnered more than 21,000 upvotes. Featured in the first post in the Tumblr exchange was a Facebook post (archived) from the official account of the media company Futurism, which publishes reporting and commentary on technology and science. The post highlighted an article (archived) titled "Elon Musk Says He Longs to Get Pregnant So He Can Produce as Many Children as Possible." Under that screenshot, the Tumblr user added a comment that read: "since facebook nixed fact checking some really cool things are being shared and I am totally here for it." (@casualfoxwitch on Tumblr) That comment, which referenced Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's Jan. 7 announcement that Meta was ending its third-party fact-checking program, suggested that the story about Musk expressing a desire to be pregnant was fake. However, a response (archived) to that post, reading "no like he actually said this," asserted that the rumor was true. In short, the "longs to be pregnant" wording did not come from Musk. It originated from the Futurism article's headline, which was an interpretation of a Jan. 7, 2025, X post (archived) to which Musk wrote "1000%," followed by two laughing emoji, in response to another X user's speculation that Musk would be on his 17th pregnancy if he had the capability. That X post was authentic and can be seen in the screenshot below. However, it's unclear whether Musk meant it as a genuine representation of his desire to get pregnant or as a sarcastic joke. Snopes has reached out to Musk for clarification about his "1000%" post, and we will update this story if he responds. We have also contacted the author of the Futurism article to ask about the decision process behind their headline. (@elonmusk on X) Either way, at the time of this writing, Musk had not made any public statement explicitly saying that he "longed" to be pregnant. An advanced search of his X posts produced no evidence of such comments. Google search results also showed no evidence of him making such remarks, aside from syndicated news articles originating from Futurism's report. Bing search results also produced no evidence for the statement. For that reason, we have rated this claim as misattributed. The post to which Musk was reacting had originally appeared in response to the Tesla and X owner sharing an image depicting a pregnant man emoji saying "X spreads misinformation," as can be seen below. (@elonmusk and @noelle_1025 on X) Musk has a history with the pregnant man emoji, which he compared to a photo of Microsoft founder Bill Gates in a 2022 X post (archived). He also has a track record of making controversial statements about transgender people — the population for whom the topic of male pregnancy holds the most relevance. Specifically, he described his trans daughter as "dead — killed by the woke mind virus" in 2024. Although it was unclear from his Jan. 7 post whether he held any genuine desire to become pregnant himself, the X owner has explicitly advocated for producing more children on multiple occasions. For example, at a 2021 Wall Street Journal event, Musk said: "If people don't have more children, civilization is going to crumble." (This quote starts at the 20:30 time stamp of the video embedded below.) The tech entrepreneur has also produced (archived) similar statements (archived) about his concerns regarding low birth rates in numerous (archived) X posts. Snopes previously touched on the topic of male pregnancy when we looked into the authenticity of a children's book titled "In My Daddy's Belly."
