In January 2021, while showing a booklet on the Farm Laws 2020, Gandhi turned around to mock the BJP, alleging that the party would have hidden this information. A video being widely shared online shows Rahul Gandhi holding a booklet during a press conference. Gandhi shows the poster and then suddenly turns around, showing his back to the reporters there. Sharing this video, one person wrote, “When Rahul Gandhi was asked to show the backside of the poster, he turned around and showed his own a**.” Others mocked Gandhi similarly, including Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Ram Satpute, who shared the video with the hashtag “Pappu”. The archived versions of these claims can be seen here and here. AFWA Probe We found the full video of this press conference on the Indian National Congress’s official YouTube channel. The January 2021 video was titled, “LIVE: Special Press Briefing by Shri Rahul Gandhi at AICC HQ”. Two minutes and 24 seconds into the video, the viral extract shows up. Here, Gandhi can be heard saying, “See how fair we are. We are clearly showing our booklet to each one of you. If the BJP would’ve been here, they would’ve done this” At this point, Gandhi turned his back to the reporters, implying that the BJP would have hidden this information from the press. The audio of the part where he mentioned the BJP was edited out from the viral video. Per media reports, on January 19, 2021, Gandhi released a booklet named “Kheti Ka Khoon” (Murder of Agriculture), highlighting the “plight” of farmers in the country. The booklet was released at a press event at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi. He alleged that the Centre was misinforming the country about the Farm Laws 2020. At the time, there was a massive ongoing protest against the BJP-led Centre on the three farm laws which were later rolled back in November 2021.
