  • FACT CHECK: Did The Journal Publish This Article About A Man’s Parachute Failing Due To Climate Change? A photo shared on Facebook allegedly shows an article from Irish-based news outlet The Journal reporting on a man who died from monkeypox after his parachute failed to open. Verdict: False This screenshot is digitally fabricated. A spokesperson for The Journal told Check Your Fact in an email that the article was fabricated. Fact Check: Medical experts claim that the elimination of monkeypox was possible, but warned that containing the spread of the virus was “a challenge,” according to ABC News. Experts suggest that it may take “years” for the virus to be completely eliminated, the outlet reported. The Facebook post purportedly shows a screenshot of an article from The Journal reporting that a man’s parachute did not deploy due to climate change and that he actually died due to monkeypox. “Man whose parachute failed to open due to climate change dies of monkeypox,” the image’s text reads. “‘He didn’t stand a chance’ said paramedics. ‘His body was riddled with the pox and he was most certainly dead before impact.'” This screen grab has been digitally altered. The story cannot be found on The Journal’s website and was not published on any of the outlet’s verified social media accounts. Check Your Fact found no credible news reports similar to the claim from The Journal or any other news outlets. “Neither The Journal nor any of our publications have ever published an article which includes that headline or content,” a spokesperson for The Journal confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact. Check Your Fact previously debunked a claim that the CDC is pushing for a “hybrid” vaccine for both COVID-19 and monkeypox.
