  • Fact Check: Video from Hyderabad in Pakistan FALSELY shared as an attack on Hindus in India AFWA's investigation found that this video was not from India - rather, it was from Hyderabad in Pakistan. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is from Hyderabad, Pakistan. Its shows a mob of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan members and supporters staging protests in front of a building housing Hindu families following an alleged blasphemy incident. Following derogatory comments against the Prophet Mohammed made by the expelled Bharatiya Janata Party MLA T Raja Singh - he was arrested and subsequently got bail - tensions have been rising in Telangana’s capital, Hyderabad. Amid this, a video has gone viral with the claim: “See the reality of Hindus in Independent India. Hindus are under attack here we are not moving but running towards Islamic country.” The tweet also demanded the arrest of Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi. See the reality of #Hindus in Independent India (?) .... Not only#HindusUnderAttack here we are not moving but running towards Islamic country.... Sir tan se juda batane wale #ArrestOwaisi free @TigerRajaSingh pic.twitter.com/V10Rh8ukQU — Shambhu é (@Shambhu_HJS) August 25, 2022 The video shows a bunch of people attempting to enter what looks like a residential building. Even as some banged on a door, others tried to climb up the walls. The video then cuts to a sea of people and a lot of commotion. Later, armed servicemen were seen firing what appeared to be smoke bombs at a crowd. The video’s inlaid text read, “Hyderabad Update”. AFWA’s investigation found that this video was not from India - rather, it was from Hyderabad in Pakistan. An archived version of the viral post can be seen here. AFWA PROBE We noticed that the servicemen donned dark green shirts and khaki pants. This does not match with the uniform of the Hyderabad City Police, which is all khaki. We then reverse searched frames from the video and found it was shared by journalist Aditya Raj Kaul on August 21. Fake case of #blasphemy against an innocent Hindu minority man lodged in at Rabia center, Saddar of Hyderabad in #Pakistan. Ashok Kumar works as a sweeper. TLP thugs came to kill the Hindu man but didn’t succeed. It was actually a Muslim woman who had burned the Islamist book. pic.twitter.com/BODLRGNjIf — Aditya Raj Kaul (@AdityaRajKaul) August 21, 2022 Per Kaul, this video was from Pakistan. The tweet read, “Fake case of blasphemy against an innocent Hindu minority man lodged in at Rabia centre, Saddar of Hyderabad in Pakistan. Ashok Kumar works as a sweeper. TLP thugs came to kill the Hindu man but didn’t succeed. It was actually a Muslim woman who had burned the Islamist book.” This incident was reported by Indian news websites like the Hindustan Times and Firstpost. Both reports contained the same video. Per a Press Trust of India report from August 22, a Hindu sanitation worker, Ashok Kumar, was arrested in Pakistan for allegedly burning pages of a religious book after the extremist group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan staged protests in front of a building housing Hindu families. Hence, it is clear that this video is not from India at all, but from Hyderabad in Pakistan.
