Our Probe
Using a keyword search, we found a report in ARY News that featured a screenshot from the viral video. It said that the child in the video was Ayaz Pathan, who was kidnapped by dacoits Farid Mirani and Yakub Mirani. Twenty-six days after his abduction, the police reportedly rescued him.
Multiple news outlets reported this incident and all of them said the name of the child was Ayaz Pathan. After Ayaz’s abduction, many Pathans in Pakistan protested, alleging that the police were not making enough efforts to find him. A video report related to one such protest can be seen below.
Ayaz’s father Noorullah Khan told the Independent Urdu that when this happened, he was praying inside his home and his son was playing outside. All of a sudden, two armed men came and took his son away. In the evening, the kidnappers called him, threatening him that if he wanted his son alive, he had to pay a Rs 50 lakh ransom.
Per the report, the police registered an FIR on April 14. The report also said that Noorullah Khan originally hails from Quetta, but during the winter season, he moves to Kandhkot with his family for six months. He has three sons and one daughter.
Some news reports also published images of Ayaz after the police rescued him.
We sent the viral video to Bashir Ahmed Brohi, the SSP of Pakistan’s Kashmore district. He told India Today Fact Check: “The child who was abducted in this incident is Muslim. He was recovered by the police.” Islamabad-based journalist Sajid Mir also corroborated this.
Thus, it’s clear that the viral claim is false.
