A poster showing popular shows such as Popeye, Batman, Mickey Mouse, Tom and Jerry, among others is being shared with a claim that reads: “Cartoon Network has officially shut down. It is the end of an era of the iconic childhood memories in Cartoon Network.”
When we checked, we found that the claim is two years old and has been circulating intermittently. Its present versions can be seen here and here.

FACT-CHECK
Our first search for any news related to ‘Cartoon Network shutdown’ on Google revealed that there were several conflicting claims, some saying it was the end of Cartoon Network, while others bring in the fact that the move is going to affect the entire animation industry.
Further search showed that the studio was shifted from its headquarters to Warner Bros studios last year, to be precisen on August 1, 2023 as per the news carried out on the studio. However, there is no press release from the Cartoon Network officially to claim that it was being shutdown.
Final clarity came from news reports by Money Control and the Hindustan Times, which quoted the Cartoon Network channel stating: “Cartoon Network would like to clarify that there is no truth to the speculation that the network or the studio are shutting down. With several recently announced greenlights, we remain committed to continually investing in innovative content that entertains and inspires our viewers across the globe.”
The reports said the trigger for such rumor stemmed from the hashtag #RIPCartoonNetwork on X that originated from Animation Workers Ignited, an account advocating for unionization of animators. Hence, the claim is false.
