A Yandex reverse image search on the viral picture led us to a report by Mid-day, dated August 21, 2019, titled ‘Three dead in helicopter crash off Greek island of Poros.’ The report featured the viral image for representational purposes.
We found several other news outlets have used the viral photo as a ‘representative image’ while reporting on different chopper crashes time and again. The same can be seen here, here and here.
Furthermore, the viral photo can also be seen in image depositary, Depositphotos.com, with the caption “Helicopter exploding in flight.”
The same picture was uploaded on iStock, on March 24, 2015.
We could thus conclude that a stock image has been used to show the recent helicopter crash in Kedarnath.
