Newschecker first ran a keyword search for the words “Yakumi Plus Effervescent Tablets”, which led us to this write-up on the tablets. According to the article, the product is not a medicine, so it is not intended to replace the therapeutic function of medicine. A further search led us to this online shopping website, Lazada, one of the largest e-commerce operators in Southeast Asia, which was selling this product. According to the description, translated from Vietnamese, it categorically states that the “tablets” are not medicine and not intended to replace them. Taking a cue from this, we ran a search across the FDA’s official website for Yakumi tablets, which did not throw up any relevant results. A further search across the database did not show the drug either, confirming that the viral advertisement was a hoax. The viral advertisement promoting Yakumi Plus Effervescent Tablets were found to be false as they are not approved by the FDA nor are they meant to be used as medicines.
