| - The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas left thousands killed on both sides and has given ample scope for many claims on the death toll as well. Amidst these claims, a video has gone viral that Hamas are advancing in the battle with their tanks moving towards Israel has been circulating on Twitter.
The video clip with these claims shows tanks with Palestine flag are carrying out military operations and the claim is that Hamas destroyed several Israeli tanks and hoisted Palestinian flags on them.
The caption reads:”हम गाजा को तुम्हारे लिए जन्नुम बना देगा । हमास ने कई इजरायली टैंकों को नष्ट कर दिया, सैनिकों को पकड़ लिया… मुजाहिद्दीन ने दुश्मन के टैंको पर फलस्तीनि के झंडे लहरा दिए।। शुक्र अलहमदुलिलाह”. [Translated version reads: We’ll make Gaza hell for you. Hamas destroyed several Israeli tanks, and captured soldiers … Palestinian flags were hoisted on the tanks of the enemy.]

FACT CHECK
When the Digiteye India fact-checked the claim, it was found to be entirely false. We took out key frames from the video and searched for images in Google Reverse Image Search. The results led us to a news report in Middle East Monitor, publishede on December 30, 2020. The headline reads:“Palestinian factions hold joint military drills in Gaza.” The report clearly explains that it was a mock drill conducted among the military wings of the Palestinian factions, including Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other PLO members in Rafah, south Gaza Strip on 29 December 2020.
Our video search gave out this link on Facebook dated Dec. 30, 2020.
The news was covered by AlJazeera on December 30, 2020, with a caption: “Palestinian resistance factions in the Gaza Strip carried out joint military manoeuvres coinciding with the anniversary of the Israeli war on the Strip in 2008. The manoeuvres included multiple defence scenarios throughout Gaza Strip.”
Hence, the claim was false and the video belongs to December 2020 and not related to the present conflict between the Hamas and Israel.
Claim: Hamas advancing toward Israel and hoisting Palestine flags on Israeli tanks captured.
Conclusion: The videoclip is from a joint military drill of Palestine groups including Hamas held on December 29, 2020.
