The post has been viral since 2018 and has been debunked by several fact-check organizations. However, it is still being circulated by a few social media users. The post claims that the former President praised Indian PM Modi. The post goes ‘Former President of the country, Mrs Pratibha Patil has given a big statement regarding PM Modi. Pratibha Patil has said that even though I am from the Congress Party, today as a social worker of India, I want to tell the Indian people that Narendra Modi is the only person who can make India a good nation. Because they have the ability to make decisions that can provide new direction to the citizens of India. Modi ji has given a new direction to the country of India, I have also served as a President for the country. But I have never seen a leader like PM Modi.*’ Fact Check: The claim is false. The former President did not make any such statement. When we searched using the keywords ‘Former President Pratibha Patil praises Modi’, we did not find any news articles supporting this. But rather we found several fact-checks done on the topic. We also searched on the website PresidentofIndia.gov.in As this post has been viral since 2018, when we checked the fact checks published, we found that ‘The Quint’ website contacted the former president’s office for clarification. The officials state that ‘The claim is totally false. It’s fake news that had been viral earlier too’ Hence, the post claiming that the Former President of India praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is false. She did not make any such statement.
