| - A social media post featuring an image of a cycle and that of late industrialist Ratan Tata is going viral with the claim that the Tata company has launched an electric cycle priced at ₹3,249.
What we found: At first, we ran a keyword search on Facebook and came across a sponsored advertisement by Stryder Bikes which featured an image of a similar cycle. The price of the cycle was quoted at ₹31,495.
We then ran a keyword search and came across the website of Stryder Bikes and found the same bike as the viral post on their website.
The bike has several texts written on it, such as the name of the brand, along with "Voltic Go." When we ran a relevant keyword search, we were led to Stryder's website featuring the same bike as the one in the Facebook ad.
The cycle was priced at ₹31,495.
Similarly, we found several other websites which were selling the same bike as the viral claim. India Mart was selling the cycle for ₹33,125 and Mystore was selling it for ₹29,945.
Incidentally, we did not find any electric cycle made by the company which was being sold for ₹3,249, as claimed.
About Stryder Bikes: As per its website, Stryder is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata International Ltd. Earlier a part of Tata International, the business was set up with a philanthropic mission of providing quality bicycles to the World Bicycle Relief (Africa). (sic)
We have reached out to the Tata company for their inputs and the story will be updated once the response is received.
Conclusion: A false claim has gone viral that Tata has made an electric bike valued at ₹3,249.
