  • Fact Check: Unrelated Video And Image Falsely Linked To Jaipur LPG Tanker Explosion Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the video is from Lebanon and the image is from Nigeria. Neither of them is related to the recent Jaipur incident. - By: Pallavi Mishra - Published: Dec 24, 2024 at 03:53 PM New Delhi (Vishvas News). On December 20, 2024, a tragic explosion and fire claimed 14 lives following a collision between an LPG gas tanker and a container on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Several videos of the incident went viral on social media. However, some unrelated videos and images are now being falsely shared, to be from Jaipur. In its investigation, Vishvas News found the viral video and picture false. This footage is actually from Lebanon and the viral image is from Nigeria and both are unrelated to the Jaipur incident What is going viral? On December 21, 2024, Instagram user ‘babai_ix07‘ shared the viral video claiming it to be from Jaipur. See the archived version of the post here. A picture of a burning oil tanker is also going viral, claiming it to be from Jaipur. Investigation Starting our investigation, we first searched for the viral video using Google Lens and discovered this video on NBC News‘ YouTube channel, uploaded on August 5, 2020. The description accompanying the video read: “Massive explosion in Lebanon kills dozens, injures thousands.” We also found the full video uploaded on Global News’ YouTube channel on August 8, 2020. The description accompanying the video read: “The moment of the massive explosion that rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut, killing more than 137 people and injuring thousands, was captured in high definition by a shop owner who was recording when the blast hit. Video shows smoke rising from Beirut’s port with small sparks being seen in what is believed to be fireworks that were set off by the blaze. According to reports, fireworks were stored in the same warehouse where 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate had previously been stored. After several seconds of recording, a massive explosion bursts outwards, which then moves outwards towards where the shop owner is, the resulting shockwave impacting multiple buildings in the process.” Subsequently, we checked the viral image of the burning tanker using a reverse image search. We found the picture on Alamy’s image library website, where the description revealed that it was taken during a fire in a petrol-filled tanker on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, Nigeria, on December 2, 2020. During our investigation, we also came across a report published on a Nigerian news website on December 2, 2020, related to this incident. We contacted Narendra Sharma, Bureau Chief of Dainik Jagran, Rajasthan, regarding this matter. He confirmed that the video and the picture are not related to the Jaipur accident. For more details on the LPG tanker explosion on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway, readers can refer to these reports. During the social scanning of Instagram user babai_ix07, who shared the fake post, we found that the user has around 2000 followers. Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the video is from Lebanon and the image is from Nigeria. Neither of them is related to the recent Jaipur incident. - Claim Review : Jaipur LPG Tanker Explosion Video - Claimed By : Instagram user 'babai_ix07' - Fact Check : False Know the truth!
