As per the claim, the person has been engaged in the farmer movement. Many people in the picture can be seen without the uniform. Vishvas News investigated and found that during the protests in Jamia in 2019, the policemen shown in the picture were on duty. Policemen sometimes put on a plain uniform when on duty due to certain reasons. This picture has nothing to do with the farmers movement. Claim Facebook user ‘Dipendra Singh Hooda – Next CM of Haryana’ uploaded a picture claiming that it is an image of a policeman on duty in the Farmers movement. The claim read: “Delhi police in jeans and sweatshirt going on duty in farmers protest.” The archived version of the Facebook post can be checked here. Investigation Vishvas News first uploaded the viral image to the Google reverse image tool and searched on the web. We found the report on The Print. The picture of the same person was used in the report which is claimed to be from farmers movement. DCP (Central) M.S. Randhawa was quoted as saying that the person seen in the picture is Constable Arvind of Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS). In the news report it was stated that during the demonstrations in Jamia, the duty of policemen was imposed to maintain law and order. The report can be read here. Vishvas News contacted the crime reporter Rakesh Singh of Dainik Jagran, Delhi and discussed regarding the viral picture. He said that the picture going viral is of the protests in Jamia that happened in 2019. We also spoke to ACP Anil Mittal, Public Relations Officer of Delhi Police. He said: “This picture has no relation with the farmers movement. It is an old picture.” We scanned the profile of the Facebook user ‘Dipendra Singh Hooda – Next CM of Haryana’ and found that the page has more than 500 followers. Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found that during the protests in Jamia in 2019, the policemen shown in the picture were on duty.
