No, photo DOESN'T show bullet hole The viral picture is a zoomed-in and the "hole" visible in Trump's jacket is actually a fold in the coat of an officer protecting him. Trump said that the bullet pierced his right ear. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check Donald Trump has said that he was shot in the ear. The “hole” visible in Trump's jacket is actually a fold in the coat of an officer protecting him. Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump was shot while speaking at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. In what is being called an assassination attempt, Trump's ear was injured, and he was immediately taken away by the security staff. Amid this, various social media users, while sharing a photo of the attack, are claiming that Trump was shot in the chest, but he survived because he was wearing a bulletproof jacket. A hole can be seen in the viral picture of Trump’s coat. Various social media users made the same claim on Facebook, and Instagram. India Today Fact Check found that the viral picture is a zoomed-in version of the original picture. The “hole” visible in Trump's jacket is actually a fold in the coat of an officer protecting him. Trump has said that the bullet pierced his right ear. Our Probe By performing a reverse image search, we found the original photo on Associate Press’ website. The viral picture is a zoomed-out version of this image. The AP image was clicked by photojournalist Evan Vucci and was also shared by ABC News on Instagram. By looking at the original picture, we could see that the alleged bullet hole was in fact a fold or a wrinkle on a female security staffer’s coat who was protecting Trump. The incident happened when Trump was speaking at an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The FBI identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the suspect. Crooks was captured and killed by the Secret Service. An attendee at the rally was also killed. It is thus clear that Trump was not shot in the chest but in the ear.
