Vishvas News (New Delhi): A picture showing some mountains is going viral on social media with a claim that it is from Himachal Pradesh. Vishvas News investigated and found that the viral picture has nothing to do with Himachal Pradesh. This is a picture of a district named Mu-Can-Chai in Vietnam. In the investigation carried out by Vishvas News, the viral post turned out to be fake.
Claim
Facebook user Sangam Sharma shared a picture on August 17 on a group. It claimed, “This scene is of village-Charna Nauradhar, Tehsil-Rajgarh, District-Sirmaur Himachal Pradesh, is our Himachal less than Switzerland..?”
Believing this to be true, other users are also sharing this picture. The archived version of the Facebook post can be viewed here.
Investigation
Vishvas News used Google reverse image tool to search for the viral picture. We found this image on many websites with the name of the Mu-Can-Chai district of Vietnam. It can be viewed here and here.
Using Google search, we searched using keywords ‘Mu-Can-Chai-Vietnam’ and found many photos similar to the viral picture. That is, it was clear that the viral picture has nothing to do with Himachal Pradesh. The picture is of Vietnam. It can be viewed here.
Vishvas News contacted Dainik Jagran’s Himachal Pradesh office. Correspondent Rajan Pundir contacted Pawan Tomar, deputy head of Kotia Jajar, Panchayat of Rajgarh sub-division of Himachal and Surendra Pundir, spokesman of Nohradhar Government Senior Secondary School and district president of Himachal Pradesh spokesperson association, in this regard. He said: “The viral picture is not of Charna Nohradhar in Himachal. For the last one year, this photo is going viral in the name of the Nohradhar area. This is absolutely incorrect.”
We scanned the profile of the Facebook user Sangam Sharma who share the viral post. We found that the user is a resident of Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. More than 3000 people follow his account.
Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found that the viral picture has nothing to do with Himachal Pradesh. This is a picture of a district named Mu-Can-Chai in Vietnam. In the investigation carried out by Vishvas News, the viral post turned out to be fake.
