  • Fact Check: Incomplete Video of Yogendra Yadav Being Shared with Misleading Claims Based on Vishvas News’ investigation, the viral video featuring Yogendra Yadav is misleading. The viral video is incomplete. The story behind Yadav’s childhood name has no connection to his religion. - By: Pallavi Mishra - Published: Jun 5, 2023 at 01:02 PM New Delhi (Vishvas News) – A video featuring activist Yogendra Yadav has been circulating on social media with claims that he has hidden his true identity. The video shows Yadav saying that his family and childhood friends call him “Salim”. However, our investigation has found these claims to be misleading, as the video in question is only a partial clip. Upon reviewing the full video, it becomes clear that there is a different story behind Yadav’s name, which is unrelated to his religion. What Is In The Viral Video: A Facebook user named Laxman Pai (Archive Link) uploaded the clipped video. The caption reads: “BE CAREFUL, God knows how many jihadis are among us using Hindu names. Guess no one knew him as Salim. See how we’ve been fooled into thinking he’s Yogendra Yadav for the last 2 decades.” Investigation: Vishvas News conducted an investigation using Google open search to verify the authenticity of the viral video. There is a watermark of JIST on the video. Upon searching with keywords such as “Yogendra Yadav Jist Interview,” we found the complete video on the verified Facebook page of the media company Jist. In the video, Yadav explains the backstory behind his childhood name, Salim. He reveals that his grandfather, Ram Singh, was a teacher and hostel warden in Hisar. One day, a Muslim mob approached him, demanding that he call out some boys from the hostel who allegedly did something wrong in the mosque. However, Yadav’s grandfather refused, which led to an angry mob killing him. Yadav further explains in the video that his father, deeply hit by this incident, decided to give his children Muslim names. Therefore, Yadav was initially named Salim. However, as he faced difficulties during his schooling because of this name, it was eventually changed to Yogendra. To validate the information, Vishvas News reached out to the journalist, Anil Sharda, who conducted the interview with Yogendra Yadav in the viral video. Anil confirmed that the video circulating is incomplete and misleading. He emphasised that Yogendra Yadav’s entire family is Hindu, and there is a story behind the name Salim, which Yadav shared during the interview. Anil provided a link to the full interview for reference. The user who posted the misleading content, Laxman Pai, has a following of over 1200 people on Facebook. Conclusion: Based on Vishvas News’ investigation, the viral video featuring Yogendra Yadav is misleading. The viral video is incomplete. The story behind Yadav’s childhood name has no connection to his religion. - Claim Review : Yogendra Yadav is a Muslim and his real name is Salim - Claimed By : Facebook user Laxman Pai - Fact Check : False Know the truth!
