New Delhi (Vishvas News) Recently, news outlets reported an unusual incident from a village in Madhya Pradesh, where two brothers allegedly planned to divide their father’s body for separate cremations. In the wake of this, a photo of a woman standing near a burning pyre has been circulating on social media, falsely linked to the incident.
However, Vishvas News investigated the claim and found the photo to be unrelated. The image was taken during the last rites of the father of a Delhi-based media professional and has no connection to the Madhya Pradesh incident.
What is in the viral post?
Instagram users ‘eksutta’ (Archive) and ‘69harami’ (Archive) shared the viral picture with the caption, “Bhopal: The dispute between brothers over conducting the funeral of their father shocked people in a small village of Madhya Pradesh when they almost decided to cut the body into two and initiate separate cremations. The incident took place in Tal Lidhora village, Tikamgarh district, following the death of 85-year-old Dhyani Singh Ghosh on Sunday. The conflict arose between his two sons, Damodar Singh and Kishan Singh. Damodar, who had cared for their ailing father, was preparing for the last rites when Kishan arrived with his family, insisting on performing them himself. A heated argument took a different turn when Kishan proposed an extreme solution—dividing the body into two so each could conduct separate cremations, reports media. Despite pleas from relatives and villagers, he remained adamant, leaving the body lying outside the house for nearly five hours.”
Investigation
To investigate the viral post, we began by conducting a keyword search. We found a news report published on The Times of India’s website on February 3, 2025, which states, “A dispute between brothers over conducting the funeral of their father shocked people in a small village of Madhya Pradesh when they almost decided to cut the body into two and initiate separate cremations. A heated argument took a different turn when Kishan proposed an extreme solution—dividing the body into two so each could conduct separate cremations, reports the media. Despite pleas from relatives and villagers, he remained adamant, leaving the body lying outside the house for nearly five hours. Unable to resolve the matter, villagers alerted the police. Officers arrived and mediated between the brothers, ultimately deciding that Damodar would perform the last rites as per the family’s consensus. Under police supervision, Kishan and his family attended the cremation, bringing the dispute to an end”
We came across multiple news reports about the MP incident where two brothers allegedly planned to divide their father’s body for separate cremations, but none of them included images from the incident.
Using a reverse image search, we found the original picture of the girl standing near the pyre on an Instagram account ‘mukesh_saxenabandhu’, uploaded on November 26, 2024.
The image was linked to the last rites of Mukesh Kumar Saxena, as confirmed by posts on his memorial. The condolence card listed his daughter, Namya Saxena, as the family member mourning his loss. We contacted her and she confirmed that the photo was taken during the last rites of her father who passed away on November 10, 2024.
Namya, an actress and a senior producer at Jagran New Media, said “This image is from my father’s funeral. It is a private moment of profound grief that has been taken without consent and paired with false and harmful context, violating my privacy and hurting my emotions. I believe this to be a serious breach of both my personal rights and ethical standards.”
The Instagram user ‘eksutta’ who shared the viral post with misleading context has over 4.5 lakh followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the photo circulating on social media, linked to the MP incident involving brothers and their father’s body, is unrelated. The image is from the last rites of a media professional’s father in Delhi.
