New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is going viral on social media. It shows a handicapped girl without hands applying tilak to Fadnavis with her feet and performing aarti. This video is being shared as recent, with people praising Devendra Fadnavis.
In its investigation, Vishvas News found the viral claim to be misleading. The viral video is not recent but is about one and a half years old when Devendra Fadnavis was the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The event took place at a program organised by DeepStambh Foundation in Jalgaon, where a handicapped girl applied tilak to him with her feet and performed Aarti.
What is going viral?
Facebook user ‘Deenbandhu Mallick‘ (Archive Link) shared the viral video on December 16, 2024, with the caption, “Supernatural power of Sanadhana Dharma Culture. A physically challenged girl with no arms, with Tilak on her forehead with her toes, taking Aarti for Devendra Fadnavis, who has been elected as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, from her feet and Shri Devendra Fadnavis accepting it with such humility, pride and happiness on his face. Incredibly touching scene to watch! Both are great.”
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. We found the viral video on the official YouTube account of News 18, uploaded on June 28, 2023.
During the investigation, we came across a report on the Jansatta website, published on June 29, 2023. According to the report, Devendra Fadnavis attended a program organised by DeepStambh Foundation in Jalgaon, where a disabled girl applied tilak to him with her feet and performed Aarti.
We found the viral video on Devendra Fadnavis’ official X account, shared on June 27, 2023. With a caption in Marathi, he praised the differently-abled girl.
For more information, we contacted Mid-Day reporter Diwakar Sharma, who confirmed that the viral video is not recent but dates back to around one and a half years old, when Devendra Fadnavis was the Deputy CM of Maharashtra.
Finally, we scanned the account of the user who shared the video with the false claim and found that the user shares posts related to a specific ideology.
Conclusion: In its investigation, Vishvas News found that the viral video of Devendra Fadnavis getting Tilak applied by a handicapped girl is being shared with a misleading claim.
