  • Fact Check: State of government school in Delhi? No, this is from Bihar While the first image does show former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's residence, the second image shows a government school in Bihar. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check While the first image shows the Delhi CM’s residence, the second one shows a government school in Chapra, Bihar. Addressing a rally in Rohini, Delhi, on January 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Aam Aadmi Party, accusing the party of focussing on “Sheesh Mahal”, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s name for the chief minister’s house renovated during Arvind Kejriwal’s tenure. Modi said that while people were fighting Covid-19, the AAP’s “entire focus was on making Sheesh Mahal. They prepared a hefty budget for Sheesh Mahal.” As per a report in the Indian Express, over Rs 33 crore was spent on the renovation of former Delhi CM Kejriwal’s official residence, far exceeding the initial estimate of Rs 7.9 crore. As the BJP continues to attack the AAP over the 6 Flagstaff Road residence, two photos have been widely shared. The first image shows a white two-storey mansion, surrounded by greenery. In the second image, school students can be seen sitting on the floor of a dimly lit classroom. The first allegedly is the luxurious house where Kejriwal lived as Delhi's CM, while the second image shows the alleged state of a government school in Delhi. An X user shared these images and wrote: “Kejriwal Sheeshmahal Vs Delhi Govt school, No amount of PR can change the reality.” Its archive can be seen here. India Today found that while the first image shows former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, the second shows a government school in Bihar. Our Probe Using a reverse search, we found that the first image used by many news outlets in December 2024 reports related to the controversy around the 6 Flagstaff Road bungalow where Arvind Kejriwal used to reside. Most of these reports have attributed this image to Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, who shared a video of the Delhi CM's bungalow, alleging that Kejriwal misused public money to build a luxurious house for himself. The viral image is a screengrab from this video. A quick reverse search of the second image led us to a July 2013 news report. As per the photo caption in the report, the image is from Bihar’s Chapra district. We looked further and found it on the website of the news agency Reuters, which noted the image shows a government-run school at the Brahimpur village in Chapra, Bihar. The image was attributed to photographer Adnan Abidi. To sum up, an old image from Bihar was falsely shared as a government school in Delhi.
