India Today Fact Check
This video is from 2016 when the actor was spotted at PVR Juhu in Mumbai with his family.
Shah Rukh Khan's latest, “Pathaan”, has been a smashing box office success, having already reportedly earned Rs 500 crore worldwide. Meanwhile, a video making a round on social media shows actor Akshay Kumar allegedly ignoring reports after watching the film. The actor, sporting a hoodie and a cap, could be seen stepping out of a building when reporters asked him what he thought about the movie. Instead of answering the press, however, Kumar stepped into his car and left.
One person sharing this video, wrote on Twitter, "When Ajay was asked about Pathaan he not only acknowledged its humongous advance but raved about it too and then there is this insecure guy who watched the movie secretly but couldn't speak a word about it." An archived version of a such tweet can be seen here.
AFWA's investigation found that this video is from 2016 and completely unrelated to “Pathaan”.
AFWA PROBE
On YouTube, we first searched for phrases like “Akshay Kumar ignores media” and “Akshay Kumar hoodie”, and found a similar-looking video on the channel “NYOOOZ TV”, shared on September 7, 2018. As per the headline, this video was from a PVR theatre in Juhu, Mumbai.
We then searched for phrases like, “Akshay Kumar at Juhu PVR” and found the viral video. On May 23, 2016, the video was uploaded to the YouTube channel Bollywood Life.
We looked for news reports about Akshay Kumar from that time and found one that contained similar photos. As per the report, Kumar was spotted at PVR Juhu with his wife Twinkle Khanna, son, and daughter. The report noted that Kumar was gearing up for the release of his comedy flick “Housefull 3”, which hit theatres on June 3, 2016.
We also searched for news reports on Akshay Kumar’s comments on “Pathaan” and found nothing relevant. Thus, it is clear that an old video was falsely linked to Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film.
