Upon fact-checking, we found this claim to be false. The Claim A video on Instagram claims that drinking a combination of jaggery, ajwain, turmeric and ghee can bring back the year old absent period in five minutes. This video has garnered 159,509 likes till we last checked. We have attached a screenshot of the claim below: Fact Check What are menstrual cycles/menses/periods? The menstrual cycle is a monthly process preparing the female body for possible pregnancy, lasting 21 to 35 days. It begins with the menses phase, shedding the uterine lining if no pregnancy occurs. A typical period lasts two to seven days. The follicular phase follows, increasing oestrogen to grow the uterine lining. Ovulation then releases an egg, marking the luteal phase with elevated progesterone, preparing the uterus for pregnancy. If no fertilisation occurs, hormone levels drop, triggering the menses phase anew. What factors cause irregular menstrual cycle? Menstrual cycles typically span four to seven days, occurring every 28 to 30 days, with variations considered normal. Factors affecting cycle length include hormonal changes, age, overall health, and medical conditions. Irregular periods involve intervals shorter than 21 days or longer than 35 days, three or more consecutive missed periods, and abnormal flow. Common causes include stress, weight fluctuations, intense exercise, birth control, blood thinners, reproductive organ surgeries, and blockages. Conditions like cancer, polycystic ovarian syndrome, hormonal issues, and pelvic inflammatory disease can also contribute to irregular menstruation.
