  • Fact Check: Iranians shot down Israeli F-35? No, this footage is from a video game India Today Fact Check found that the viral video does not show Iranian defence capabilities. It's from the military game "Arma 3". Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is from the simulation game “Arma 3”. It’s not real. Israel carried out a military operation against Iran in the early hours of April 19, further escalating tensions between the two regional rivals. Iranian state media reported that air defence batteries had been activated after reports of explosions near a major airbase close to Isfahan, a city in central Iran. A video allegedly showing the Iranian air defence capabilities destroying Israeli F-35 jets over Isfahan is now going viral. Sharing this video, an X user wrote, “Breaking, Iranian anti-air capabilities seen destroying the first Israeli F-35 in history over Isfahan.” Its archive can be seen here. India Today Fact Check found that the viral video does not show Iranian defence capabilities but from the military simulation game “Arma 3”. OUR PROBE Responding to the viral post, many people pointed out that the video does not show an actual incident, but footage from “Arma 3”, a video game. They claimed that this video was from the YouTube channel “Compared Comparison”. Scrolling through the channel, we found the same video uploaded on June 28, 2023, titled, “Fighter Jet Explodes after C-RAM System Hits Engine - Military Simulation - ArmA 3”. The video has been viewed over 40 million times and predates Israel’s attack on Iran’s Isfahan. As per Compared Comparison’s YouTube channel’s description, it makes modern military films with the help of simulation games like “Arma 3” and “Digital Combat Simulator World”. The channel also uploaded many other simulations, resembling the viral video. We also searched online about Israel's F-35 fighter jet being shot down by Iran, but we did not find any credible news that could confirm this. Thus, it’s more than clear that footage from a video game was falsely shared as Iran’s defence against an Israeli attack.
