Quick Take
A social media post claims that a cream Hemo Trix can cure haemorrhoids. Hemo Trix is an alleged hemorrhoids relief cream. We did the fact check and termed it as False.
The Claim
A post on Facebook claims that a haemorrhoid cream called Hemo Trix can cure haemorrhoids. The post further suggests that the cream can treat haemorrhoids within a week without pain or surgery. Additionally, it claims that the cream can treat grade 3 haemorrhoids without pain and surgery.
Fact Check
What are haemorrhoids?
Haemorrhoids, also known as piles, are swollen veins in the lower rectum and anus. They can cause discomfort, itching, pain, and bleeding during bowel movements. Haemorrhoids are generally classified into four grades based on their severity:
- Grade 1: Small swellings on the inside lining of the anus. They are not visible externally and may bleed but do not prolapse.
- Grade 2: Larger swellings that may come out (prolapse) during a bowel movement but retract on their own.
- Grade 3: Prolapsed haemorrhoids that must be pushed back manually into the anus.
- Grade 4: Large, prolapsed haemorrhoids that cannot be pushed back and may require Piles surgery.
Common causes of haemorrhoids include straining during bowel movements, chronic constipation or diarrhoea, sitting for long periods on the toilet, a low-fibre diet, and pregnancy. Haemorrhoids are a common condition, with many people experiencing them at some point in their lives.
Can a hemorrhoid cream really cure haemorrhoids?
No. The claim of being able to cure piles, that too grade 3, with a haemorrhoids relief cream is false. We checked for the clinical trials or other credible information on the product website but we were not able to find any. Also, the Facebook post claims that this product can cure haemorrhoids within a week. Sensationalised claims of a quick cure is again doubtful. It also claims to eliminate even grade 3 haemorrhoids without the need for painful procedures or surgery. Similar to this, there’s another product called Piles Matrix kit which can heal piles and stop bleeding in just one day. Even this product asserts that it can cure grade 3 and 4 piles without a surgery, naturally at home. But as per scientific evidence, grade 3 and 4 haemorrhoids generally require surgery.
To evaluate the effectiveness of Hemo Trix, it is important to look at its ingredients and how they work. First of all, they have not mentioned a full ingredients list anywhere on their product page. We were only able to find the “main ingredients” on the website. The main ingredients are:
- Aqua: Commonly used as a solvent in creams.
- Cnidium Officinale Root Extract: Traditionally used in Chinese medicine for its anti-inflammatory properties.
- Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract: Known for its potential anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.
- Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract: Often used for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
- Panax Ginseng Root Extract: Believed to have anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting effects.
These ingredients are “natural” and may have benefits. But, their inclusion in Hemo Trix does not guarantee a cure for haemorrhoids especially in cases of grade 3 piles. Most haemorrhoid relief creams provide only temporary comfort, but do not address the underlying causes.
The website’s presentation of an incomplete ingredients list raises concerns about transparency. Repeated emphasis on “natural” and “quick” results is a common tactic used to attract customers. But, it lacks substantiation through clinical evidence.
Has the clinical trial done for Hemo Trix?
For a product to be considered a cure, it should undergo rigorous clinical testing and show effectiveness in treating the condition. Currently, there is no scientific evidence or peer-reviewed studies available that support the claim that Hemo Trix can cure haemorrhoids within a week.
The effectiveness of any haemorrhoid treatment depends on various factors, including the severity of the haemorrhoids, the individual’s overall health, and adherence to treatment recommendations. Symptom relief may be achievable with topical treatments, but a true cure often requires a combination of lifestyle changes and medical interventions.
Is the product’s website credible?
The website for Hemo Trix includes a testimonial from a supposed medical doctor named Dr. Emma Foster, MD. However, a reverse image search reveals that the photo used for Dr. Emma Foster has appeared on several other websites under different names and contexts, indicating that the endorsement is likely fake. This once again undermines the credibility of the product and suggests deceptive marketing practices.
What are the proven treatments for piles?
The best treatment for piles is always prevention. The treatment for piles or haemorrhoids depends on the severity and symptoms. Mild haemorrhoids can often be managed with lifestyle and dietary changes. Common recommendations include:
- Increasing fibre intake: A high-fibre diet can soften stool and reduce the need for straining.
- Staying hydrated: Drinking plenty of water helps keep stools soft.
- Over-the-counter medications: Creams, ointments, suppositories, and pads can relieve symptoms like pain and itching. But, they are not ‘cures.’
- Sitz baths: Soaking the anal area in warm water several times a day can provide relief.
In more severe cases, medical procedures may be necessary. These can include rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, coagulation, haemorrhoidectomy, and stapled haemorrhoidopexy.
What is the treatment approach for grade 3 haemorrhoids?
Grade 3 haemorrhoids are more severe and usually require more intensive treatment. They generally do not respond well to topical treatments alone. Standard treatments for grade 3 haemorrhoids often involve procedures such as:
- Rubber band ligation: A rubber band is placed around the base of the haemorrhoid to cut off its blood supply, causing it to wither and fall off.
- Sclerotherapy: A chemical solution is injected into the haemorrhoid to shrink it.
- Infrared coagulation: Use of infrared light to cut off blood supply to the haemorrhoid.
- Haemorrhoidectomy: Surgical removal of the haemorrhoid.
- Stapled haemorrhoidopexy: This is an effective treatment for piles, in which the protruding pile is stapled back into place inside the anus. This is less painful than the surgical approach.
What does an expert say?
Medical professionals stress on the importance of a comprehensive approach to haemorrhoid treatment. The general consensus in the medical community is that topical treatments and some home remedies for piles can provide symptomatic relief, but they do not address the root cause of haemorrhoids. Patients should also consider dietary changes, adequate hydration, and seek medical advice for persistent or severe cases.
We checked with Dr Sharad Malhotra, Senior Consultant & HOD Gastroenterology Hepatology & Therapeutic Endoscopy, Aakash Healthcare, New Delhi, for the effectiveness of Hemo trix. He states, “I’ve tried to find the composition of Hemo Trix but couldn’t get it. Usually, such creams contain decongestants and antiseptic properties, offering partial relief. They might work for small haemorrhoids but won’t be effective for larger, grade 3 haemorrhoids. The larger ones often require additional medications for issues like constipation and bleeding. This is how such products are peddled with exaggerated claims. Be careful before trusting quick cure promises without evidence. Always consult with a doctor for proper treatment.”
Dr Shashank Agrawal, Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist at Max Healthcare, says, “We generally do not recommend these particular treatments in our practice. The reason for this is that there is little evidence to suggest that they are effective. Haemorrhoids develop when the vascular cushion in the rectum protrudes, and this is primarily an anatomical condition with a physiological explanation. It is important to note that these treatments may carry a risk of infection and potential harm to the sphincter complex. Instead, we encourage patients to focus on strategies such as avoiding excessive straining, staying well-hydrated by drinking an adequate amount of fluids, and adopting a diet that is high in fibre. To add more, establishing healthy bowel habits plays an important role in effectively managing this condition.”
The NHS recommends lifestyle changes for healthy bowel movements. Stay hydrated, eat fibre-rich foods, practise good hygiene, and consider taking paracetamol for piles pain relief. A warm bath or ice pack can soothe discomfort. Pushing a protruding pile back gently may provide relief. Keep the affected area clean and dry. Exercise regularly and limit alcohol, caffeine, and cola intake to prevent constipation. These adjustments promote well-being and alleviate pile-related symptoms.
Conclusion
The claim that Hemo Trix can cure haemorrhoids within a week and treat grade 3 haemorrhoids without pain is false. There is no scientific evidence or clinical trials. Consumers should be cautious of products making bold claims without substantiated evidence. For those suffering from haemorrhoids, consulting with a healthcare professional is the best course of action to receive appropriate and effective treatment.
