  • An X (formerly Twitter) post purportedly shared by Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate is going viral to claim that in 2012, she had posted an image of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and mocked her. The caption of the tweet reads in Hindi, "Why madam? Did all the dance bars in Italy shut down?" How did we find out the truth?: We checked these keywords on X's advance search option and found no such result coming up. Proving that no such tweet was made from Shrinate's X account. The screenshot carries the date as 24 April 2012, taking the cue, we checked date wise tweets on Shrinate's account and found no results. We also found no credible report about this post. We then compared the viral screenshot with an authentic tweet and found some errors. There is an extra gap between the image and the statistics. The number of views are also missing from the fake screenshot. We contacted Shrinate: She confirmed to Team WebQoof that this screenshot is fake. "This is absolutely false. In 2012 I was the Executive Editor of ET NOW, the business news channel of The Times Of India group. My father was a Congress MP then (2009-14). I have the highest regard for Mrs Sonia Gandhi, I would never say such a thing about her," she adds. She further clarifies that she does not tweet Hindi written in roman script (as used in the viral screenshot) and only uses either English or Hindi language. She further said, "This is the cheap propaganda of the Right Wing - by using a photo shopped fake post. I have never tweeted this, and I am actually in the middle of taking legal action against this photoshopped post." Conclusion: A screenshot of a fake tweet is going viral claim that Supriya Shrinate insulted Sonia Gandhi in 2012. (Not convinced of a post or information you came across online and want it verified?
