  • FACT CHECK: Was Secretary Of Education Miguel Cardona Arrested By The U.S. Military? A post shared on Facebook purports Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona was arrested by U.S. Marines on charges of treason and child endangerment at his Connecticut home on Thanksgiving Day 2022. Verdict: False The claim stems from an article published on a satirical website. There is no evidence Cardona was arrested by U.S. Marines on such charges. Fact Check: In a Nov. 19 tweet, Cardona said individuals seeking student loan debt forgiveness through the federal government would begin receiving updates on their applications, CNBC reported. The tweet follows an injunction from the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals blocking President Joe Biden’s executive order aimed at removing student loan debt, according to Fox Business. The Facebook post purports Cardona was arrested by U.S. Marines on charges of treason and child endangerment at his Connecticut home on Thanksgiving Day 2022. The post further claims the U.S. Army Cyber Command obtained letters Cardona allegedly sent to multiple school districts encouraging them to hire non-binary teachers and teach children about gender reassignment surgery, which has prompted a JAG investigation. The claim is false. There are no credible news reports suggesting Cardona was arrested by U.S. Marines on charges of treason and child endangerment. Neither the Marines nor the Army has mentioned the claim via their verified social media accounts or respective websites. Likewise, Cardona has not publicly commented on the purported claim. A keyword search reveals the claim stems from a Nov. 25 article published on the website “Real Raw News.” A disclaimer included on the site’s “About Us” page indicates it contains “humor, parody, and satire.” (RELATED: Did Federal Agents Get Into A Gunfight With Marines At The Federal Reserve On November 8?) Check Your Fact has contacted U.S. Marines, Army, Marine JAG, and Department of Education spokespersons for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received. This is not the first time a satirical claim has circulated on social media. Check Your Fact previously debunked a post purporting the U.S. Navy JAG will begin prosecuting “deep staters in absentia.”
