  • YesMadam is a real home salon company based in India, and it did conduct a survey to assess staff stress levels. However, YesMadam did not fire any employees as a result of the survey. The alleged email screenshot shared online was part of a "planned move" to highlight the idea of giving staff days off to focus on their mental health, according to a statement from the company and an employee central to the internal PR campaign. On Dec. 9, 2024, a LinkedIn post (archived) claiming that a home salon company had fired employees who said in a survey that they felt "significant stress" circulated on social media. The post, which has since been removed, contained a screenshot of an email allegedly sent by an HR manager at the India-based home salon company, YesMadam. In the email, the manager explained that a survey of staff stress levels had been carried out and, as a result, the business had "made the difficult decision to part ways with employees who indicated significant stress." (LinkedIn user Anushka Dutta) The screenshot was originally posted by YesMadam employee Anushka Dutta. According to her LinkedIn profile, Dutta started working at YesMadam in June 2024. She had posted about YesMadam prior to the Dec. 9 post. The alleged email quickly spread to other LinkedIn posts (archived) and onto X (archived), where the claim was also shared in Portuguese. However, the following day, on Dec. 10, Dutta posted again (archived) — this time to declare: "Nobody got fired!" She confirmed that the survey into stress levels did take place and that she took part in it. However, the decision to post the screenshot was "a planned move" to highlight "the idea of De-Stress Leaves" — a policy allowing staff to take time off for their mental health. Dutta added: "Moreover, the employees were taken into confidence, and we didn't send any emails." The full follow-up post can be read below. (LinkedIn user Anushka Dutta) YesMadam also commented on the campaign with a three-page statement (archived) on LinkedIn titled: "No one was fired at YesMadam!" It read: To our YesMadam family and community, We sincerely apologize for any distress caused by recent social media posts suggesting we dismissed employees for being stressed. Let us be clear: We would never take such an inhuman step. Our team is like family, and their dedication, hard work, and passion are the foundation of all our successes. The social media posts were a planned effort to highlight the serious issue of workplace stress. And to those who shared angry comments or voiced strong opinions, we say Thank you. When people speak up, it shows they care and care is at the heart of our business. Were YesMadam employees really fired for being stressed? Absolutely not. In fact, the statement added that YesMadam staff were "given a break to reset," "encouraged to release their stress," "offered a chance to relax" and "urged to rest and recharge." YesMadam also said in the statement that "De-Stress Leaves" were a part of their Happy 2 Heal campaign, which offered employees six paid leave days a year "for their mental health and rejuvenation." Therefore, due to Dutta's follow-up post on Dec. 10 and the release of a full statement from YesMadam, we have rated this claim as false.
