  • Fact Check: China DID NOT build these twin towers in just 19 days, Brazilian skyscrapers took 8 years Plans for this project in Blumenau, Brazil, were proposed in 2012. Work began in 2014 and it was completed in 2022. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check These towers are not from China but from Blumenau, a southern Brazilian city. Construction began in 2014 and ended in 2022. A photo of imposing twin skyscrapers has been widely shared online as an engineering marvel. Allegedly, these Chinese towers that still appeared to be under construction were 57 storeys tall and were built in just 19 days. "China built this 57-storey building in just 19 days,” read a tweet containing the photo. The archived version of this post can be seen here. India Today found that these skyscrapers were actually built in Brazil, not China. Our Probe Reverse-searching the viral image on Yandex led us to a website named Blumenau Verticle that featured several other drone shots of the same real estate project. One of the images inside this gallery looked identical to the viral one. The website described the project as the “Yachthouse Residence Club” and said that it was built near Blumenau, a city in southern Brazil. This website also carried a drone shot video of these towers, recorded in 2018, when the construction was in its last lap. Subsequently, we searched for these towers on Google Maps and found them near the beach of Blumenau city. After comparing the surroundings of the image with Google Maps, it became clear that these towers were not from China at all. How long did the project take? Using an advanced search with Portuguese keywords, we found a news report published in September 2021. Penned by a journalist named Dagmara Spautz, it mentioned that the project had reached its “final external finishing stage” that month. Reportedly, the Pininfarina group was behind this construction, and Brazilian football star Neymar had also bought a penthouse there. Upon visiting the official website of Pininfarina, which was an Italian car design company that later expanded into architecture and real estate, we discovered that work on the project began in 2014. According to the website of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, plans for this project were proposed in 2012. It was completed in 2022. Thus, it’s clear that these are not Chinese towers that were constructed in only 19 days. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
