Claim :Policemen thrashing people offering Namaz on the road in Uttar Pradesh Fact :The video is from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and shows the incident that took place in 2021 A video of police personnel dispersing a group of youth by caning them is in circulation on Facebook with the claim that the video is from Uttar Pradesh where the police are thrashing people who were offering namaz on the roads. The posts imply that under Chief Minister Yogi's rule, the police are taking strict action against the people offering namaz on the roads, so need to vote for the BJP party. The video is shared with the caption “Such joy to see this. Yogi ji need of the hour to set straight religious fanatics. NEW RULES Vote for BJP!”. The video shows visuals of policemen beating up young men and releasing tear gas to clear the mob. Fact Check: The claim is False. The video is from Madhya Pradesh, not Uttar Pradesh, and was shot in the year 2021. When performed a Google reverse image search on the key frames extracted, we found a report published by MP Tak on October 19, 2021. The video is titled “Stone pelting during a religious procession in Jabalpur, police forcefully chased away the miscreants.” The description of the video states: “There has been a controversy in Jabalpur regarding the procession of Miladunnabi. The crowd taking out a procession threw burning firecrackers at the police. Later, stones were pelted. The police also had to use mild force. The crowd was dispersed by firing tear gas shells. Earlier, similar tension took place at Raddi Chowki also in the morning, but then the police had handled the matter. The uproar continued for one and a half hours.” Here is the comparison of the screenshots from the viral video and video uploaded by MP tak. According to the report published by Indian Express published on October 20, 2021, Madhya Pradesh police used mild lathicharge and lobbed teargas shells to control crowds during Eid Milad-un-Nabi processions in three districts of the state. In Jabalpur, firecrackers and stones were allegedly hurled at the police personnel, when the police reacted by firing tear gas shells to control the crowd. Hence, the viral video is not from Uttar Pradesh and not recent. The video is from Madhya Pradesh and was shot in the year 2021.
