  • Fact Check: Arvind Kejriwal’s Video Appealing To Vote For Congress During Delhi Assembly Elections Is Edited The video clip of Arvind Kejriwal allegedly appealing for votes for Congress during the Delhi Assembly elections is edited. In reality, during the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, he had accused the opposition parties of contesting the elections together. A part of that speech is now being made viral and shared with a false claim. By: Sharad Prakash Asthana - Published: Feb 6, 2025 at 10:43 AM - New Delhi (Vishvas News). During the voting for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 on February 5, a video clip of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal went viral. The clip features him appealing to vote for Congress in the Assembly Elections. Some users are sharing it with claims that Kejriwal urged the voters to vote for Congress in the Delhi elections. Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral video clip was edited. The original video dates back to the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, where Kejriwal during the Facebook Live session said, “For the past two days, there have been reports that RSS and Akali Dal people have started going door-to-door and campaigning that don’t vote for Akali Dal in this election, don’t vote for BJP in this election, all of you should vote for Congress together.” Later, Kejriwal clarified that these parties are working together to stop AAP from coming to power. He then urges the people to press the ‘Broom’ button. A part of that video is being shared with misleading claims during the Delhi assembly elections. Viral Post Facebook user Ramkrishna Mishra posted the video clip (archive link) on February 5, 2025 with the caption: “Kejriwal’s appeal for Delhi elections- Vote for Congress!” In the video, Kejriwal says, “Do not vote for BJP in this election, all of you should vote for Congress.” Investigation To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we took a screenshot of the video and searched it using Google Lens. We found a longer version of the viral video uploaded on Arvind Kejriwal’s Facebook page on January 30, 2017. In this, he is saying, “For the past two days, there have been reports that RSS and Akali Dal people have started going door-to-door to campaign that don’t vote for Akali Dal in this election, don’t vote for BJP in this election, all of you should vote for Congress together. News is coming from all sides that Akali Dal, RSS and BJP people are shifting their votes to Congress in large numbers. First thing, this proves that they are fighting the election together. Their aim is to not let the Aam Aadmi Party come to power in any way because if the Aam Aadmi Party comes to power, all of their old files will be opened. All of them will go to jail and all their corruption will come out.” Later, Kejriwal urges everyone to vote for AAP by pressing the broom button this time. Arvind Kejriwal also released a video on February 2, 2017, clarifying that the claim about him appealing to vote for Congress is fake. He stated that his old video had been edited and misrepresented. This video has gone viral earlier too. At that time, Vishvas News contacted AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha, who confirmed that a part of the video was made viral, altering its real meaning. We scanned the Facebook profile of the user who shared the edited video and found that the user has approximately 36000 followers. Conclusion: The video clip of Arvind Kejriwal allegedly appealing for votes for Congress during the Delhi Assembly elections is edited. In reality, during the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, he had accused the opposition parties of contesting the elections together. A part of that speech is now being made viral and shared with a false claim.
