Fact Two-month-old video, not linked to the IPL final match between CSK and GT. MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament 2023 after defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) in a rain-hit match on Monday. Soon after, a video of the CSK team mates including MS Dhoni feasting on Gujarati dishes such as ‘Jalebi,’ and ‘Fafda’ surfaced online. Those who shared the video have linked it to the final match between CSK and GT in Ahmedabad. Newschecker found the “link” untrue and the video to be two-months-old. Such posts can be seen here, here and here. News outlet Free Press Journal also reported on the video, asserting, “Chennai Super Kings players were seen enjoying some delicious snacks during the rain-interrupted break of the IPL 2023 final on Monday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The likes of MS Dhoni and Deepak Chahar were feasting on jalebi and fafda while waiting for the match to resume.” Also Read: ‘Sea Of Yellow’ Image Is Of 2010 Ethiopia Run, Not CSK Fans Outside Narendra Modi Stadium A keyword search for “CSK,” and “Fafda Jalebi” on YouTube led us to a video by ‘Cricket speak’ dated March 31, 2023. It carried a longer version of the viral footage, with the description saying, “Raining in Ahmedabad |Dhoni eating Jalebi fafda.” The YouTube channel had credited the video to “CSK ig.” Following this, we skimmed through the Instagram handle of the Chennai Super Kings and found that a longer version of the viral footage was uploaded on the account on March 30, 2023. The caption accompanying the video read, “choosing the right rain snack ✅ #WhenInGujarat #WhistlePodu “ Also Read: ‘Living In Pakistan Is Like Living In Jail’: Kiwi Commentator Simon Doull Did Not Make Such A Statement Chennai Super Kings had also tweeted the same video from their official Twitter account on March 30, 2023. Displaying screen grabs from the viral video, a report by The Tribune stated, “Chennai Super Kings’ practice session ahead of the IPL 2023 curtain raiser against defending champions Gujarat Titans was interrupted by heavy showers on Thursday, March 30. While it rained heavily at the venue, the CSK players including skipper MS Dhoni, Ben Stokes, and Devon Conway, among several others, enjoyed Jalebi-Fafda in the dressing room.” Also Read: Adam Gilchrist The Richest Cricketer In The World? Here’s The Truth Behind Viral List Of Wealthy Cricketers We could thus conclude that two-months-old footage has been falsely shared to show CSK team members feasting on ‘Jalebi Fafda’ after rainfall interrupted the IPL finale.
