  • FACT CHECK: Facebook Video Does Not Show Genuine CCTV Footage Of Mother Being Separated From Baby On Public Transit A video shared on Facebook purports to show recent closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of a mom being separated from her baby inside the Louis Blanc Metro Station in Paris, France. Verdict: False The claim is false. A spokesperson for the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens, the company that operates the Paris metro, told Full Fact the video is “staged.” Fact Check: Two minors were among nine people arrested for allegedly attacking a Paris police station with “heavy-duty rocket fireworks,” according to The Guardian. The attack, which was purportedly carried out by 50 people, occurred on Mar. 17 in La Courneuve, the outlet reported. The Facebook video purports to show recent CCTV footage of a mother being separated from her baby inside the Louis Blanc Metro Station in Paris, France. In the video, the woman struggles to lift her baby’s stroller inside the subway car. The woman eventually gives up and lowers the stroller back onto the platform as the subway car door closes and the train takes off. “Public transport mothers with babies should be more careful,” the video’s caption reads. A longer version of the clip is available via YouTube and shows a man interacting with the child before almost pushing the stroller off the subway platform. A sign hanging near the back of the platform indicates it is the Louis Blanc Metro Station. A keyword search reveals the metro station is located in Paris, France. The claim is false, however. Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. In fact, the opposite is true. The U.K.-based outlet Full Fact labeled the claim as false via a Mar. 15 article. A spokesperson for the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens, the company that operates the Paris metro, told Full Fact the video is “staged.” (RELATED: No, King Charles Is Not Dead) “This video is several years old and has been staged,” the spokesperson told the outlet. Additionally, the video is neither referenced on the website for Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens nor on its verified social media accounts. Check Your Fact has contacted Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
