  • FACT CHECK: Have U.S. Troops Been Deployed To Washington D.C. Ahead Of Midterms? A post shared on Facebook purports 7,000 troops have been deployed to Washington, D.C., just a week before the midterm elections. Verdict: False The video is from 2021, days after the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riots. There is no evidence that the U.S. Military has been deployed to D.C. Fact Check: As the midterm elections approach, President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama have appeared on the campaign trail, according to ABC News. In Brazil, supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro have called for the military to intervene in the election following his loss to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, CBS reported. The Facebook post appears to show a video depicting U.S. military patrols at the Capitol the week before the election. “I just saw this on WCW telegram page! …MORE THAN 7000 soldiers are now in DC,” the post reads. (RELATED: Did Ron DeSantis Confront Hunter Biden In Florida?) The claim is false. The video was originally posted on TikTok by user @richardjournalist Jan. 9, 2021, appearing to show the response following the violent demonstration in Washington D.C. in 2021. The Department of Defense authorized the deployment of 6,200 national Guard members Jan. 7, 2021, to ensure a “peaceful” transition of power from former President Donald Trump to President-elect Joseph Biden. The National Guard was on deployment in D.C. until May 2021. There have been no credible news reports that support this claim. Neither the White House or the National Guard have made any announcements about security or military forces at the Capitol. The spread of misinformation has spread rapidly as midterms approach. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that Ohio mail-in ballots require two stamps.
