Claim A photographer’s images are getting viral on social media since India lost to New Zealand in the Cricket World Cup 2019. In the photo, it has been shown that when Dhoni lost his wicket in the Cricket World Cup, a photographer started crying. Investigation Vishvas News started the investigation by performing the reverse image search of the photographer’s photo. Upon searching, we found an article dated January 25, 2019, on the International News website. The article was headlined “An Iraqi photographer hides his grief with his lens.” We further investigated and found a tweet from the Twitter handle @official433. In the tweet, same images of the crying photographer could be seen with the caption “An Iraqi photographer after his country lost in Round of 16 of the @afcasiancup.” The Twitter handle @official433 covers football-related news. Vishvas News spoke to a sports reporter of Dainik Jagran who was in London covering the Cricket World Cup 2019. He told us, “This photo is not of Cricket World Cup 2019. The accreditation strip which the photographer is wearing is not from the Cricket World up 2019.” We scanned the social profile of the Facebook page which shared the viral post. The page has 483,249 followers and 482,314 likes so far. Conclusion Vishvas News investigated and found that the viral post is fake. The viral picture is that of an Iraqi photographer who got emotional after his football team’s exit at the Asian Cup 2019. Know The Truth… Spread Awareness Knowing the truth is your right.
