New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video of Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, who arrived to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Hemant Soren in Jharkhand, is going viral. The video is being shared with the claim that he ignored Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at the ceremony and did not shake hands with him.
Vishvas News’ found in its investigation that the viral claim is false. The video is edited, in the original clip Kejriwal meets Rahul Gandhi and shakes hands with him. Following this, he meets Congress leader DK Shivakumar. The video of Rahul Gandhi and Kejriwal shaking hands has been clipped, to propagate the misinformation and the video is now being shared with false claims.
What is going viral?
On November 28, 2024, Facebook user ‘Ghanshyam Goyal’ shared the viral video with the caption, “Kejriwal ji did not shake hands with Rahul Gandhi, which clearly means AAP is not in the mood to give importance to Congress in Delhi elections.”
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords and we did not find any credible news report suggesting that Arvind Kejriwal ignored Rahul Gandhi. However, we came across several reports highlighting the power of the alliance.
Taking the investigation forward, we started searching for the video of Hemant Soren’s swearing-in ceremony. We found the full video of the swearing-in ceremony on the official YouTube channel of the Jharkhand government, uploaded on November 28, 2024. At the 2:56:08 mark in the video, Arvind Kejriwal can be seen approaching Rahul Gandhi, meeting him, and shaking hands. He then meets Congress leader DK Shivakumar sitting with Rahul Gandhi and shakes hands before moving on to meet other leaders. This confirms that the part featuring shaking hands with Rahul Gandhi has been edited and removed.
We also found the video of Hemant Soren’s swearing-in ceremony on the official YouTube channel of Live Hindustan, uploaded on November 28, 2024. In this video as well, Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi are seen shaking hands at the 49.28 mark.
For more information, we contacted Ranchi’s State Bureau Chief Pradeep Singh who covered this swearing-in ceremony. He confirmed that the video is edited and the viral claim is false. Both of them greeted each other and shook hands during the event.
Finally, we scanned the account of the user who shared the video with the false claim. The user has about 500 friends and frequently shares posts aligned with a specific ideology.
Conclusion: In its investigation, Vishvas News discovered that the viral claim about Arvind Kejriwal ignoring Rahul Gandhi is false and the viral video is edited. In the original video, Kejriwal meets Rahul Gandhi and shakes hands with him. He then proceeds to meet Congress leader DK Shivakumar. The video of Rahul Gandhi and Kejriwal shaking hands has been edited and removed to propagate the misinformation. Now the video is being shared with false claims.
