In January 2022, we tackled a different claim involving the same video. The previous claim framed the video as depicting a scene of “love jihad,” a term often used to allege deceptive conversion tactics against Hindu girls. The video is now recirculated on X with a narrative suggesting forceful conversion.
Fact Check
Investigation by the Rumor Scanner team revealed that the video does not depict a Hindu girl being forcibly converted to Islam. It is actually an older video of a Muslim girl undergoing treatment for jinn possession.
A keyword search found the complete 12:22-minute video titled “How Jinn is Released, You Will Be Surprised to See” (translated), published on January 20, 2019, by SR Studio on YouTube. This video, under the same title, was also found on various Facebook pages (1,2) in January 2019 and subsequently.
Reviewing the original video shows a Muslim cleric attempting to exorcise a jinn from a girl wearing a burqa, adhering to religious rituals. Analysis of the dialogue indicates the girl is Muslim and was possessed by a non-Muslim jinn. The cleric is seen obtaining a conversion confession from the jinn before performing the exorcism.
Bottom Line
The video portrays a Hindu jinn being compelled to recite the Kalima and give a confession while possessing a Muslim girl, rather than a Hindu girl being forced to convert to Islam. A segment of the 12-minute 22-second video, showing the jinn possessing the girl and being made to sit and recite the Kalima, has been edited and circulated on social media with the misleading claim of forceful conversion.
So, the segment showing a Muslim girl being exorcised by a cleric from a possessing jinn is being falsely promoted on social media as depicting forceful religious conversion, which is false.
