Both images are old. Significant parts of ‘Jawan’ was shot all throughout 2022 and these photos were first reported to be from the sets then.
As “Pathaan” continues to break box office records, two photos that allegedly show Shah Rukh Khan shooting his next film “Jawan” have gone viral on social media.
One shows Khan sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with his face and head wrapped with bandages. The other shows a group of people with faces wrapped in cloth in what looks like a metro station. The archived version of such posts can be seen here and here.
Film critic and trade analyst Vishvajit Patil shared these photos on Twitter, writing, “Superstar #ShahRukhKhan & Junior Artist Photos #Jawan Sets Today.” The archived version of this tweet can be seen here.
ANI and Zee news also shared one of these photos as recent visuals of Khan on the sets of “Jawan”. NDTV India and ETV Bharat used the photo in their reports and claimed that Khan had begun shooting “Jawan”.
AFWA found that both photos are more than six months old. Additionally, shooting for “Jawan” was already underway in cities like Mumbai and Chennai in 2022.
AFWA Probe
Using reverse search, we found this photo of Khan’s bandaged face in an Entertainment Times report from April 7, 2022, titled “Exclusive photos: Shah Rukh Khan shoots for his next helmed by director Atlee in the city”. It featured multiple photographs shot at the same location. These images have been credited to photographer Himanshu Shinde. Per the report, Khan was seen shooting for his next film helmed by director Atlee.
This photo also appeared in several media reports about the film in April 2022. At that time, it was speculated that the movie was going to be called “Lion”. However, when its makers made the official announcement on June 3, 2022, the name “Jawan” was used.
A reverse search of the second image led us to a June 4, 2022 post on Reddit titled, “Jawan set picture! Wonder what the plot is.” We couldn't, however, find this photo in any media reports about the film. But its presence on the internet since June 2022 clearly shows it’s not recent at all.
When did ‘Jawan’ begin shooting?
According to News18, the shooting of “Jawan” began around October 2021. The movie was shot in multiple locations. As per a Pinkvilla report, its Mumbai shooting schedule began in June 2022 and continued till mid-July.
The movie was shot for nearly 30 days in Chennai. When that ended in October 2022, Khan tweeted in appreciation and said that he had a blast on the sets. Atlee retweeted this and thanked Khan.
According to some media reports, the last leg of the “Jawan” shoot was planned for Rajasthan. “Jawan”, directed by Atlee, will be released on June 2, 2023. The movie also stars south actors Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara. Khan’s production company Red Chillies Entertainment is producing it.
Another Khan flick titled “Dunki” directed by Rajkumar Hirani is expected to release in December 2023, as per reports.
So, while AFWA could not independently verify the exact location and date of these images, we can conclude with certainty that they are not recent.
