  • Fact Check: This is a 2023 'Kalash Yatra', NOT a procession from Nepal to Ayodhya Ram Mandir India Today Fact Check found that this video shows a "Kalash Yatra" held in Greater Noida back in July 2023. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video shows a July 2023 procession taken out by followers of Dhirendra Shastri or Bageshwar Dham Sarkar in Greater Noida. A video of a procession of saffron-clad men and women chanting “Jai Shree Ram” is making the rounds on social media. Women in the video could be seen holding something on top of their heads. Those sharing the clip claimed that people from Nepal were marching to Ayodhya for the Ram Mandir’s consecration ceremony. Sharing the video on Facebook, one person wrote, “Procession from Nepal, mother's house of Goddess Sita Devi, carrying gifts and offers for the Kumbabhishekam ceremony of Sri Rama Sita temple in Ayodhya. So not only India but Nepal is also in full ‘josh’ for the Ram Temple.” Janakpur, a city in Nepal, is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Ram's wife Sita. India Today Fact Check found that this video shows a “Kalash Yatra” held in Greater Noida back in July 2023. OUR PROBE A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a Facebook Reel dated July 12, 2023. The video contained the hashtag “Bageshwar Dham Sarkar” and the geotag “Greater Noida”. Using these clues, we found a YouTube video of a procession taken out by the followers of self-styled godman Dhirendra Shastri, also known as Bageshwar Dham Sarkar, ahead of his “Bhagwat Katha” event in Greater Noida. Further, we found media reports that said a three-kilometer-long procession was taken out in Greater Noida on July 9, 2023, ahead of Shastri’s “Bhagwat Katha” scheduled to be held between July 10 to 16 in 2023 at the Jaitpur village. Women participated in huge numbers, carrying a “Kalash”, a metal vessel, and coconut on their heads. News 18 reported the same, adding that around 2,000 CCTV cameras were installed and 1,200 police personnel were deployed in the area ahead of the event. A video of this procession was also shared on the official YouTube channel of Bageshwar Dham Sarkar on July 9, 2023. Some portions of the viral video can be seen after the 1:05 minute mark in the video. It is worth noting that over 3,000 gifts, including silver shoes, ornaments and clothes, reached Ayodhya from Nepal’s Janakpur on January 6. Per reports, the presents were brought by a convoy of three dozen vehicles and more than 500 devotees. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
