  • FACT CHECK: Did Jill Biden Make This Statement About Abortion? A photo shared on Facebook purports First Lady Dr. Jill Biden said she “would have been fine” if her mother had wanted to abort her. Verdict: False This quote is fabricated. A spokesperson for the first lady confirmed to Reuters that Biden made no such comment. Fact Check: The FDA recently voiced concerns about doctors prescribing Mifepristone, an abortion drug, to people who are not yet pregnant, Politico reported. A Supreme Court argument session was interrupted Wednesday when abortion rights protesters interfered, urging women to vote in the upcoming midterms Fox reported. The Facebook photo shows a black-and-white image of Biden quoted as saying, “If my mother wanted to abort me I would have been fine with that.” The quote does not suggest when or where the first lady made the remark. “Stupid is what stupid says,” the caption reads. This quote is not genuine. There are no credible news reports to confirm that Biden said this quote. Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find the alleged comment on any of Biden’s verified social media accounts. A White House spokesperson directed to a Reuters article debunking the same claim, in which a spokesperson for the first lady confirmed that no such comment was made by Biden. (RELATED: No, Jill Biden Was Not Arrested For Elder Abuse) Biden has expressed support for abortion rights in the past. “Women will not let this country go backwards,” she said in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, AP News reports. The first lady also expressed disappointment to the decision during a visit to a cancer center, stating “I thought of all the girls and women, like my friend,” The New York Times reported. This is not the first time a fabricated quote has gone viral. Check Your Fact previously debunked a claim that Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin said there were no “Easter bunnies or egg hunts” when Jesus Christ was alive.
