A video on Instagram by the name satinder.mutneja is circulating around the gram. The video says that the concoction of lemon, turmeric, ajwain and dalchini will help melt all the fat from the body and from the belly. A screenshot of the video is given below:

Misinformation or incomplete information about health can harm people in several ways. Firstly, it may lead individuals to make unhealthy lifestyle choices or adopt unproven remedies, resulting in negative impacts on physical well-being. Secondly, reliance on inaccurate information can delay or prevent individuals from seeking proper medical advice or treatment, exacerbating health issues. Additionally, misinformation can contribute to anxiety, stress, and unnecessary worry, negatively affecting mental health. It is crucial to promote accurate, evidence-based health information to empower individuals to make informed decisions for their well-being.
We asked Dr Swati Dave, Phd in Food and Nutrition, about the consequences of weight loss/dietary misinformation. She said “Weight loss misinformation on the internet is akin to a virus, spreading quick fixes and false claims through captivating video captions. Deceptive information often promises easy solutions, promoting unrealistic expectations. Such misleading content can lead individuals to adopt ineffective or even harmful practices, hindering their pursuit of sustainable and healthy weight loss. It’s crucial for individuals to critically evaluate online information, seek evidence-based advice, and avoid falling prey to misleading trends that lack scientific support.”
We also asked Dietician Harita about the weight loss/dietary misinformation, she told us, “There is no single magical diet for weight loss.”

What are the consequences if the whole body lacks any fat?
If the body doesn’t have any fat, it can lead to serious health consequences. Fat plays crucial roles, such as providing insulation, cushioning organs, and serving as an energy reserve. Essential fatty acids, which the body cannot produce on its own, are vital for various physiological functions. Without adequate fat, nutrient absorption, hormone production, and overall cellular function can be impaired. To achieve fat loss, it’s essential to identify the underlying causes of weight gain, such as inflammation, leaky gut, hormone imbalance, toxins, low metabolism, or medication use. Once the cause is pinpointed, appropriate modifications to diet and lifestyle are made for effective fat loss. Natural fat reduction occurs through a combination of physical activity and a well-balanced, calorie-deficient diet. It’s important to note that weight loss affects the entire body rather than targeting specific regions, even though visible changes may vary slightly.
Chhavi Kohli, Nutritionist and Diabetes educator in Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, explained “Prioritise both your physical and emotional well-being by fostering healthy and sustainable habits. Achieve balance by enjoying the foods you like while emphasising nutrient variety. Opt for minimally processed, colourful, seasonal, and local foods. Incorporate regular exercise, prioritise quality sleep, and stay adequately hydrated. When seeking health advice online, verify its reliability and authenticity. Consult your healthcare professional to discuss concerns and ensure personalized guidance.”
Dietician Priyanka is also of the view that, “Individuals vary in body composition and reasons for health issues like weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and knee pain. Therefore, it’s crucial to adopt a personalised approach based on your unique needs. Always consult a qualified dietitian for guidance tailored to your specific circumstances and health goals.”
Is it easy to lose weight just by drinking a concoction?
No, Losing weight requires a strategy involving dietary changes, lifestyle adjustments, and addressing underlying medical conditions, if present. No external agents have substantial evidence supporting their role in weight loss. Medical conditions like diabetes, thyroid issues, and PCOS can contribute to weight gain, necessitating treatment for effective weight loss.
Dietician Harita said,”The internet is flooded with weight loss tips, but it’s essential to recognize that causes and treatments for weight gain differ among individuals. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. The health benefits of spices, like curcumin or cinnamaldehyde, stem from specific active compounds. Using high-quality and appropriate quantities of spices matters, as they contain more beneficial compounds. Research relies on concentrated extracts. While incorporating spices into a balanced diet is advantageous, moderation is crucial to avoid potential side effects from excessive consumption.”
Does the concoction of lemon, ajwain, turmeric and dalchini help in weight loss?
According to Dr. Umesh Wadhavani, “No individual food item has the power to cause or prevent chronic health conditions. Instead, the overall impact on health is determined by a combination of factors, such as diet, daily routine, workplace stress, relationships, sleep, and physical activity.”
The combination of lemon, ajwain (carom seeds), haldi (turmeric), and dalchini (cinnamon) is often suggested in traditional remedies for various health benefits, including weight loss. However, it’s important to note that while these ingredients may have certain health-promoting properties, there is limited scientific evidence to support the claim that this specific combination directly leads to weight loss.
