Pro-Russian sources are spreading information about two Colombian citizens who allegedly left their military unit in Ukraine without permission. The poster illustrating this news claims that the men are allegedly armed, prone to violence and may be carrying forged documents. Some sources also note that the reason for the escape was racially charged violence and humiliation in the army. Now the Colombians are allegedly being sought by the National Police. However, this news is another fabrication by propagandists. The only evidence that two Colombian citizens really committed an unauthorized abandonment of the unit in the Kharkiv region is a photo of a poster that anyone could print and hang. The poster invites those with any information about the fugitives to contact the National Police Main Directorate in the Kharkiv region, so we did indeed reach out to them for a comment. Olena Barannyk, head of the communications department of the National Police Main Directorate in the Kharkiv region, told us that law enforcement officers know nothing about such an incident. Thus, the citizens in question are not wanted, and the news is complete disinformation. We also contacted the International Legion to find out whether Colombian citizens with such names actually serve in its ranks, but did not receive a response at the time of publication of the article. These are not the first fakes of Russian propaganda about Colombian military personnel in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Last month, we refuted reports that the body of an International Legion soldier was returned to Colombia without internal organs, as well as news about the death of Pablo Escobar’s great-nephew in the fighting for Ukraine.
