OUR PROBE
Many people responded to the viral post claiming the video was old and from Switzerland. A reverse search of the viral videos keyframes led us to a December 23, 2024, TikTok post. The post, which was the same video, was shared with the hashtag Svizzera, the Italian word for Switzerland. This means that the viral video predates the LA wildfires that began on January 7.
We found several Swiss mediareports from December 23, 2024, that said a fire broke out in a Badhtte or bathhouse, that was almost 100 years old in the northern Swiss town of Rorschach on the shores of Lake Constance.
The photo of the Badhtte used in the report also matched the visuals of the building seen on fire outside the window in the viral video, and the date of this media report and the TikTok video were also the same.
Based on the information given in the reports, we found the location of this buildingon Google Maps near the Hotel Restaurant Rosengarten in front of Lake Constance in Switzerlands Rorschach.
The window framevisible in the video matched the hotels windows as seen on Google Maps Street View. This makes it clear that this video was shot from inside the Hotel Rosengarten.
Also, the angle from which the Badhtte is visible looks identical in Street View as well.
We found a photo of this Badhtte after the fire, uploaded to Google Maps in December 2024.
Thus, it is more than clear that the viral video is from Switzerland and predates the current LA wildfires.
