  • Did two people who participated in the January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol die within 24 hours of one another in early 2025, after being pardoned for their actions by President Donald Trump? No, that's not true: Although police killed one pardoned participant in January 2025, the other person in question died three months earlier. There is no evidence as of this writing that a second January 6 participant was killed in early 2025. The claim appeared in a video (archived here) on TikTok on January 28, 2025. The person in the video opened by saying: Two of the January 6ers who were pardoned have been killed in the past 24 hours. One was pulled over and was shot. And now, another one. It was the retired woman doctor who had just returned to her home in Seattle. She was out in her front yard, and a 40-year-old man came up and shot her. Killed her and walked off. This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing: (Source: TikTok screenshot taken on Wed Jan 29 15:08:19 2025 UTC) The first case the person in the video mentions occurred on January 26, 2025. Matthew Huttle, a January 6 defendant (archived here) pardoned by Trump (archived here), was shot and killed by a police officer following a traffic stop and a fight between Huttle and the officer (archived here). The second case described in the video did not happen within 24 hours of the first. Instead, Tamara Towers Parry, a January 6 participant (archived here) who died after being shot (archived here), was killed on October 1, 2024 (archived here), more than three months before Huttle's death. Additionally, Towers Parry was not pardoned by Trump during her lifetime, as Trump did not assume office until after her death. Lead Stories did not find any evidence that another person pardoned by Trump for their actions on January 6, 2021, was killed in January 2025. We did a search using keywords on Google News (archived here), which found no credible reporting to confirm the claim that a rioter other than Huttle was killed in January 2025. Other Lead Stories fact checks of claims related to January 6 can be found here.
