  • The Hamas, a Palestinian military group, used motorised paragliders to launch an attack on Israel. However, multiple other videos which are not related to the attack are being shared on social media claiming how it shows the actual attack by Hamas. One such video shows paragliders gliding into what looks like a playing court. The claim attached to the video states that “Hamas terrorists paraglide in to Israel, they went door-to-door to massacre, innocent civilians, rape and murder women and children.” The video shows paragliders sailing in the air and landing on a playground. Digiteye India received a request on WhatsApp to fact-check this viral video. FACT CHECK The Digiteye India team divided the video into multiple keyframes and ran a Reverse Image Search on Google using each of the keyframes. One of the results led us to this video that was posted on YouTube 13 days ago, which is on September 30, 2023. The video was which was titled in Arabic and translated to ‘Parachute Forces in Heliopolis.’ The video was the same as was used in the viral video. The audio matched as well. We watched the video closely to find clues that would tell us the exact location of the video. At 0:01 seconds, we spotted a person wearing a blue jacket with horizontal stripes on the shoulder. The back of the jacket read, ‘EL NASR SC.’ We conducted a keyword search and found out that El Nasr SC is an Egyptian football club based in Cairo, Egypt. We used these clues to conduct a keyword search on Google. We found that there is an El-Nasr Sporting Club in Cairo. The team looked at the images of the club to confirm if it was the same location. We found a picture posted by a user on Google that showed the same playing arena from a different angle. This helped us ascertain the location of the video. The claim that the video is from Israel is, hence, false. CLAIM: Viral video allegedly shows Hamas militants paragliding into a playground in Israel to launch an attack on Israeli citizens. CONCLUSION: The video is not from Israel. It was shot in Egypt where paragliders glided into a playground in Cairo. The video was shot at the El-Nasr Sporting Club in Egypt. The location matches with the one as shown in the viral video. RATING: ??? – Misrepresentation
