The subsequent caption explains the photo is related to a motorway closure due to a suspicious package at the time. Fact Check: Incumbent London Mayor Sadiq Khan was re-elected to a third term as mayor May 4, becoming the capital’s longest-serving mayor in history, according to Politico. Khan garnered 44 percent of the vote while his challenger, London Assemblywoman Susan Hall, won 33 percent of the vote, an increase in margin over his 2021 victory, the outlet reported. A post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, alleges that there is a mass exit from London after the recent election. The post shared an image of a motorway on which one side is completely filled with vehicles and the other is completely empty. “Incredible scenes as people flee London after Khan’s victory,” the caption reads. “Families with whatever possessions they had time to pack. Desperate people hanging onto the back of lorries. Some abandon their cars to escape before sharia law is installed. Notice no cars heading INTO the city.” The claim is inaccurate. The image dates back to 2017. The Press Association captions the image as a result of police closing the motorway for six hours. The closure was due to a suspicious package left on the road, The Guardian reported. There was no explosive in the package, the outlet reported. London Mayor Sadiq Khan won reelection recently giving him a third term in the position, The New York Times reported. Khan is the first to win three consecutive terms.
